The Game Explained
Pusoy — also widely known as Chinese Poker or Pusoy Dos when played in the two-card variant — is a card game that's been part of Filipino household culture for generations. Most Kabayan learn it from family members, and it's the kind of game that comes out during long holidays, birthday gatherings, and fiestas when the food's been eaten and everyone's looking for something fun to do.
The standard version of Pusoy deals 13 cards to each of four players from a single 52-card deck. Each player then arranges their 13 cards into three separate hands: a back hand of five cards, a middle hand of five cards, and a front hand of just three cards. The back hand must be the strongest, followed by the middle, then the front — and once you've set your hands, you compare them against the other three players at the table.
At Winph6, the Pusoy experience is faithful to the Filipino version of the game, meaning the rules, hand rankings, and bonus scoring will feel completely familiar if you've played before. And if you're new, the platform walks you through everything clearly before you sit at your first table.
Hand Rankings
Knowing which hands beat which is the foundation of Pusoy. Here's the full ranking chart used in the Winph6 Pusoy tables, listed from strongest to weakest for five-card hands.
| Rank | Hand Name | Description | Strength |
|---|---|---|---|
| #1 | Royal Flush | A-K-Q-J-10 of the same suit | Maximum |
| #2 | Straight Flush | Five consecutive cards, same suit | Very High |
| #3 | Four of a Kind | Four cards of the same rank | Very High |
| #4 | Full House | Three of a kind plus a pair | High |
| #5 | Flush | Any five cards of the same suit | High |
| #6 | Straight | Five consecutive cards, mixed suits | Medium |
| #7 | Three of a Kind | Three cards of the same rank | Medium |
| #8 | Two Pair | Two different pairs | Low-Med |
| #9 | One Pair | One pair of matching rank | Low |
| #10 | High Card | No matching cards — highest card wins | Lowest |
Three-Card Front Hand: Your front hand uses only three cards, so the rankings that apply are Three of a Kind (best), then One Pair, then High Card only. No straights or flushes count in the front hand at Winph6.
Some versions of Pusoy at Winph6 recognise "naturals" — special 13-card combinations that win automatically against all opponents regardless of their hand settings. Examples include Three Straight Flushes, Three Royal Flushes, and Six Pairs. Landing a natural earns a multiplied payout and is one of the most exciting moments in the game.
Game Modes
Winph6 offers several Pusoy formats so players of all skill levels and bankrolls can find the right table.
The standard four-player format where everyone receives 13 cards and sets three hands. The most popular mode at Winph6 — straightforward, skill-rewarding, and familiar to most Filipino players.
The fast-paced card shedding variant where players race to get rid of all their cards by playing higher combinations than the last player. Every Filipino family has their own house rules — Winph6 uses the most widely accepted Philippine version.
A timed variant where each player has a fixed number of seconds to set their three hands. Ideal for experienced players who want a more intense, fast-moving session. Available at select Winph6 tables.
For serious players looking for bigger pots. Winph6 high stakes Pusoy tables have higher buy-ins and proportionally larger payouts. Royalty bonuses and natural hand multipliers apply at maximum rates on these tables.
Scoring System
Understanding the scoring system is what separates a casual Pusoy player from someone who consistently wins. At Winph6, the scoring follows the traditional Filipino point-based system, with a few extra bonuses for special hands that make every deal exciting.
After all four players reveal and compare their hands, each person earns or loses one unit per hand against each opponent. Since you have three hands (back, middle, front) and three opponents, the maximum swing in a single round is nine units in either direction — plus any bonus multipliers.
Win one unit per hand against each opponent. Beat all three of a player's hands and you earn three units from them alone for that round.
Win all three hands against one opponent in the same round and collect a sweep bonus on top of your regular unit earnings. Winph6 applies an automatic multiplier for sweeps.
Setting premium hands in specific positions earns bonus units regardless of the comparison outcome. For example, a Royal Flush in the back hand pays an extra royalty bonus to all opponents automatically.
A qualifying natural beats all opponents outright with a large multiplier applied to the entire pot. At Winph6, naturals are among the highest-value outcomes in a single Pusoy round.
Play Smarter
Pusoy is a game of both skill and probability. These tips won't guarantee wins, but they'll help you make better decisions at the Winph6 table.
Always start by identifying the strongest possible five-card hand from your 13 cards. Your back hand must be your best combination, so locking it in first helps you figure out what's left for the middle and front hands without breaking up a strong grouping by accident.
A fouled hand — where your front is stronger than your middle, or your middle beats your back — automatically loses all three comparisons that round at Winph6. Always double-check the hand order before confirming your set, especially when you're rushing on a timed table.
Sometimes it's better to have three decent hands rather than one spectacular hand and two weak ones. Winning two out of three comparisons against each opponent still puts you ahead. Overloading the back hand can leave your front dangerously weak against experienced players at Winph6.
If your 13 cards form a qualifying natural combination, going for it is almost always the right move despite the risk. At Winph6, naturals pay massive multiples. Learn the natural hand combinations — Three Straight Flushes, Thirteen Different Suits, and others — so you can spot them quickly at the deal.
In the multiplayer tables at Winph6, experienced players often give subtle hints about their hand strength through setting speed and timing. If someone confirms their hand almost instantly, they likely have a very strong or very straightforward deal. Use that context in how aggressively you set your own hands.
Even skilled Pusoy players hit cold runs where the cards just aren't there. Set a session limit before you sit down at a Winph6 table and stick to it. Chasing losses in a card game is one of the fastest ways to turn a fun session into a frustrating one — take a break, come back fresh.
